Since opening its doors in 2012, Guttman has used an innovative approach to academic pedagogy and programming, strategically limiting its degree offerings during the early years of operation to ensure success.

In its next phase of growth and development, Guttman is expanding its academic programming, and engaged LMIS in both 2021 and 2022 to provide labor market intelligence in support of its strategy, facilitating data-informed decisions around programmatic expansion.

LMIS conducted labor market research on employer demand in New York City, identifying the most promising occupations and career paths aligned with Guttman’s existing degree offerings, and assessing promising new areas for institutional expansion. These data analyses supported Guttman’s strategic goals: to identify areas of career opportunity for students and alumni, and to design academic coursework which would best prepare students to access them.

“Guttman is delighted to partner with LMIS, an organization with a shared commitment to our goal of creating an academic plan for growth and scaling that is grounded in our identity as a Hispanic and Minority Serving Institution and will offer promising degree and career pathways focused on economic mobility for our students.” Niesha Taylor, Former Dean for Academic Programs and Planning, Guttman Community College, CUNY
